Applied Investment Management Program

The University of Arizona Finance Department has established an Applied Investment Management program, providing students with an opportunity to apply previous course experiences and knowledge to a student-managed portfolio funded with contributions by alumni and friends of the University.

Please visit the Applied Portfolio students' website that includes recent news from the class, the current composition of the portfolio and the full portfolio review book.

In 2003/4, the students successfully outperformed the benchmark set for the portfolio, as reported in the Eller Times Summer 2004.

Read more about the program here.

Financial Markets and Institutions

Join Professor Chip Ruscher and a group of undergraduate and master's students on a trip to London to explore and experience financial markets from a global perspective. Following class sessions reading and discussing international financial markets, students visit financial institutions and companies not normally open to visitors. Visit the class website to read more about this program, requirements and prior trips.

R.I.S.E. 2006 Symposium

Undergraduate students Brad Conrad and Chad Royer had an opportunity to attend the R.I.S.E. 2006 symposium in Dayton, Ohio this spring. Redefining Investment Strategy Education (R.I.S.E.) provides an opportunity for leading students, faculty and investment professionals to interact and discuss strategic issues facing tomorrow's leaders in the financial services industry.

Breakout sessions and workshops featuring such topics as Risk Management, Portfolio Management and Fixed Income Portfolio Management allowed students to interact with financial professionals on a more personal level. The two students particular enjoyed the Equity Analyst Workshop, by Jim Russel, CFA, Managing Director of Core Equity Strategies, and the Portfolio Manager Workshop by John Augustine, CFA, the Chief Investments Strategist, both of Fifth Third Asset Management INC. The highlight of the symposium was the panel discussions among some of the most prestigious economists and financial experts in the U.S. More information is available at the RISE website: http://udrise.udayton.edu/.
