Dual MBA/MMF
Dual Master of Business Administration / Master of Science in Management with a Concentration in Finance
Students in the full-time MBA program at The University of Arizona campus are eligible to complete dual degree programs with the Master's in Finance. This program allows students to count certain coursework toward both degree programs, reducing the total number of credit hours and courses required to obtain both degrees.
Students typically complete the MBA core requirements in the first year, taking 15-18 units per semester, followed in the second year by the MMF track and MBA elective requirements, and the MMF project in the summer following the second year.
Students may elect to complete their Master's in Finance coursework in a fifth semester following the master's project, graduating with the MBA degree in May, completing the MMF project over the summer and graduating with the MMF degree in December.
Requirements
The student must apply to and be admitted to both the MBA program and the MMF program.
University policy on dual degrees stipulates that a maximum of 50% of the credit hours for the shorter program may be counted toward both degrees. Therefore, the MBA/MMF degree requires a total of 73 units: the 55 units of MBA course work, to include 18 units of Finance electives, plus an additional 12 units of required Finance courses and 6 units of required Finance master's project.
Summary
MBA Degree requirements: 55 units of course work
MMF Degree requirements: 36 (30 units of course work plus a 6-unit summer project).
However: 50% (18 units) of Finance course work can be counted toward the MBA
Therefore, to receive the dual degree, the following are required:
- For the MBA degree:
37 units of course work taken from the MBA core and elective curriculum
18 units of Finance electives (not including FIN 510, FIN 525, or FIN 909)
55 units meets requirement for the MBA degree
- For the MBA/MMF degree: In addition to the above,
12 units in Finance (not including FIN 510)
6 units of MMF Project course work (FIN 909)
18 units
73 total units
A summary page of the Dual MBA/MMF rerequirements is available.
