UA Endowment Internship Program
The University of Arizona Endowment will fill a 15-month paid internship each January with a UA undergraduate finance major admitted to the Master's in Finance program. The internship will include a stipend of $10,000 during the master's program and waiver of master's program tuition. Funds are generously provided by Investment Office of the Financial Services Office, The University of Arizona.
The student must be motivated and hard-working. This internship will provide the student a chance to be fully immersed within the endowment management process and will report directly to the Chief Investment Officer.

This position will be selected through a highly competitive process that must be accompanied by acceptance into the Master’s in Finance program.
Responsibilities
The endowment intern's duties will include the following activities to assist in the management of The University of Arizona’s diversified investment portfolio:
- Assist in developing an investment database for the purpose of monitoring, analyzing, and reporting, both existing and potential investment options.
- Create, maintain and improve all databases for collecting and summarizing data provided by external managers.
- Perform quantitative analysis at both the portfolio and individual manager level. This includes performance attribution, risk characteristics and correlations to indices, peers and other endowment managers.
- Develop and implement tools to assess, measure, and manage risk at the total portfolio and individual manager levels.
- Work closely with the CIO and other staff on various projects including quarterly and other reports to Trustees.
- Research, collect, analyze, and summarize financial information using Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, Power Point and other graphical software.
- Participate in due diligence, when able, with managers and vendors to understand potential investment and operational risk to the portfolio.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The selected candidate will possess the following:
- Ability to analyze, assess and question portfolio dynamics from investment strategies to individual investment ideas/holdings.
- Understanding of risk management concepts and techniques, quantitative methods of analysis; knowledge of a wide range of asset classes, financial instruments, and strategies; knowledge of asset allocation, modern portfolio theory, and manager analysis; understanding of portfolio construction.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with The University of Arizona’s investment team and investment committee.
- Ability to think critically (“healthy skepticism”) strategically and logically, cut through complexity, synthesize and articulate complex strategies in a simple fashion.
- Ability to work on projects in a team environment in a small office and work with established deadlines.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative and research skills; excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for institutional investments, capital markets and overall global economic environment.
- Self-motivated, high energy; high integrity.
